Building in Second Life:
An Apartment Building
in a Virtual World
One of the interesting aspects about Second Life is that everything one
sees in-world was built by the Residents. It's possible to go to
school in-world to learn building techniques using a variety of software
applications as well as tools available in Second Life. And, it's
great fun! Well, it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but...
So, Resident Jerome Newstart is building an apartment unit to serve as
home for First UCC SL friends and volunteer staff. These pictures
show the progress and a lot of trial and error learning. The
building has 24 apartment units on three floors, 18 studios and 6
1-bedroom. First floor has a disco and a coffee lounge for
socializing. A central atrium open to the sky will eventually hold
a fountain and lots of flowers.
First floor rough line up at Builder's Brewery where Jerome works on pre-launch construction projects.
Staircase finished and layout done, now time to stack floors. Some trial carpet and wall colors too.
Second, third and fourth floors nearly ready.
Made and installed the glass wall around the stairwell.
